Years operational unknown
Thanks to "Lastrun6", we now know of this area that operated in Groveland. Here are his details:
In operation for only a couple of years. If you go to the top of Bradford Ski area and look east you will see the hill. When I was kid (5 or 6) the building that housed the tow engine at the summit burned to the ground. Up until 3-4 years ago the foundation remained as well as the stumps of the poles that held the rope tow.
To access the summit, from Boston, take 95 north to Rte 97(Georgetown/Topsfield). Follow 97 to the Tea Garden Restaurant (about 7 miles). Turn left (Salem st). Follow Salem St to PRICE RITE AUTO, take 2nd right after PRICE RITE (Center St) to View Hill. The Ski area was located to the right near the summit.
If you look to the left you will see Bradford Ski Area. If you look to the right you will see the Merrimack River. Just past and to the left of the Bridge you will see Thunderhead.
Steve Rheaume found this area in April, 2002, and took the following pictures:
|Looking down the slope. There are numerous houses in that area now. Steve did not trespass to take this picture.||
||Looking up the slope today. Notice there are homes in that area, so if you check this area out, please do not trespass.|
Anybody else remember this area?
