Opening Day!

On January 2, 2010, Hickory Ski Center reopened after being closed for nearly 5 years! A tremendous amount of work went into the mountain over the summer to bring it back to life. The trails have all been cleared out, the base lodge has been refurbished, all the staff were in place.

Opening day featured skiing off the classic lower mountain Hall T-bar, serving about 5 trails and a 320' drop. The upper mountain was not open as of yet, as it needs more snow to be skiable. Tickets were just $20 for the special opening day along with free coffee and cocoa which was a nice treat.

The trails were uncrowded and were partially groomed/packed, with some powder on the sides.

Enjoy the pictures and video from opening day - for all photos, click on them to view the larger version. And most importantly - make a trip to Hickory this season to experience the classic terrain and support this wonderful ski area!
